Five provinces could reach a maximum temperature of 41ºC on Friday, warns INAM

Cinco províncias podem atingir 41ºC de temperatura máxima já na sexta-feira, alerta INAM

The National Meteorological Institute (INAM) today warned of an intense and humid heat wave, with temperatures likely to vary between 37 and 41 degrees Celsius in five provinces.

In a statement, the institution said that high temperatures could hit some districts and cities in Maputo, Gaza, Inhambane, Tete and Zambézia provinces.

Meanwhile, forecasts also point to the occurrence of strong gusty winds, thunderstorms and local showers at the end of tomorrow.

INAM recommends the precautionary and safety measure.

The institution says that the low pressure system that formed northeast of the island of Madagascar, in the southeastern Indian Ocean basin, has evolved into a tropical disturbance in recent hours.

INAM explains that projections indicate that the phenomenon has the potential to reach the stage of a tropical storm on Friday in eastern Madagascar.

However, says INAM, the phenomenon poses no danger to the Mozambique Channel and the mainland of the country.

The institution says it is monitoring the evolution of the system and calls on the population to follow the weather information and warnings issued by the national authorities. (Source: RM)
