On Wednesday, March 15, the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, inaugurated 100 zero-type houses in Bairro Incassane, in Maputo's Katembe municipal district, built as part of the Renascer Project, an investment by the Fund for the Promotion of Housing (FFH), in partnership with the Maputo City Council, valued at around 70 million meticais.
The construction of the evolutionary houses, aimed at young people in seven municipal districts of Maputo, is part of the implementation of the strategy of the Habita Moçambique Program, launched by the Mozambican statesman, which establishes mechanisms for providing land and other basic infrastructure to citizens.
On the occasion, Filipe Nyusi said that access to decent housing in the country remained a challenge for the vast majority of the population, especially young people.
The Renascer project, as he explained, is aimed at citizens whose income is up to five minimum wages, and the method of access is through the payment of monthly installments of around 2,800 meticais, over a period of 20 years, with no interest rate.
"The construction of each house cost around 800,000 meticais. However, they are being sold for around 600,000 meticais, a discount of around 20 percent, which represents the government's contribution," he emphasized.
For the statesman, this project has the advantage of allowing the houses to evolve in accordance with its model: "The owners, if they want to, will be able to negotiate with the project managers so that they can make structural improvements to their new houses," he said.
In addition to the 100 houses now inaugurated, 24 houses have also been built in Monapo, Nampula province. Construction work is also underway on 130 type-1 houses in the municipality of Ribáuè, Nampula, 24 in Pemba, Cabo Delgado, 41 in Montepuez, also Cabo Delgado, 20 in the district of Mecufi, Nampula and 25 in the municipality of Metangula, Niassa.
For the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Mesquita, the construction of the 100 houses in Incassane is the result of the collaboration of the local authorities and the support his ministry has been receiving from Maputo City Council.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources has been creating conditions for the construction of more housing, within the possible circumstances. As a result, in a project negotiated with the World Bank, it has embarked on a challenge to build around two thousand houses in the improvement model, in the north of the country.
"The project, which started about four months ago, is being developed in the cities of Nacala, Nampula, Pemba and Montepuez, with an investment of 100 million US dollars," concluded Carlos Mesquita.
