Today, the country's capital, Maputo, celebrates 137 years since it was elevated to city status.
On the occasion of the event, the mayor of Maputo, Rasque Manhique, laid a wreath this morning in the Square of Mozambican Heroes.
This year, Maputo City Day is celebrated under the slogan: "Maputo 137 years: Together for a vibrant, welcoming and inclusive city."
As part of the celebrations for Maputo's 137th anniversary, the city council announced in a statement that there will be no day off this Monday.
