The government has activated 417 Local Risk Management Committees in flood-prone areas to prevent, mitigate and respond promptly during the current rainy and cyclonic season in the central province of Sofala, it was announced in Beira..
"With this provision, everything is in place to respond to any eventuality in the event of disasters during this rainy season and cyclones, as part of the preparations for the rainy season," said Aristides Armando, delegate from the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD).
"The local committees represent the first step in responding to disaster risk at local level, the INGD is the entity that coordinates the entire disaster risk management and reduction cycle," he stressed, explaining that of the 417 committees activated, 242 are at community level and 175 at school level, made up of 7,505 duly trained members.
