National Road Number One (N1), one of Mozambique's main connecting roads, is closed in the Anchilo checkpoint area, in Nampula province, due to the increased volume of water from the heavy rains caused by severe tropical storm Jude.
According to a publication in the newspaper "The Country", the situation has caused disruption to road traffic, temporarily isolating some areas and making it difficult to transport goods and passengers.
Severe tropical storm Jude has caused intense rainfall and strong winds in Nampula province, increasing the risk of flooding and road closures. The authorities are appealing to the population to take precautions, especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides.
In this context, according to the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD), which is monitoring the storm's progress, it warns that the situation could worsen over the next few days, adding that emergency teams have already been mobilized to assess the impacts and coordinate possible interventions in the affected infrastructures.
In addition to Nampula, tropical storm Jude has also been affecting the provinces of Cabo Delgado, in the north, and Zambézia, in the center, since dawn on Monday (10). The phenomenon entered Mozambique through the district of Mossuril, bringing winds of up to 140 kilometers per hour and gusts of 195 kilometers per hour, causing significant damage to economic and social infrastructure.
The storm has already left more than 400,000 customers without electricity in Nampula, according to the director of Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), Cristiano Neves.
