Most of the coastal districts of Nampula province are without telephone communication on the networks of the three national operators, following cyclone Gombe that hit the mainland in the early hours of Friday morning, with Mossuril district as the entry point.
The National Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (INGD) reports that there is considerable destruction of public and private infrastructure, including people's homes, which has not yet been quantified.
According to the source, the food products sent to the districts for pre-positioning got wet due to the removal by wind force of the cover of the places where they were conditioned.
At this moment, the rains and the winds are increasing in intensity, and at least in the city of Nampula, the streets and avenues are "empty". In many institutions, few employees have gone to their posts, and commerce is running at half speed.
