More than 15,000 people are still without electricity across the country, following the passage of Cyclone Freddy, an official source from the public company Eletricidade de Moçambique (EDM) said.
As a way of minimizing the impact of the absence of power, the company has opted for other forms of power supply, according to EDM spokesman Luís Amado
"In Inhassunge, we manage to get power from a small 50 KVA generator. We're talking about the crossing between Quelimane and Inhassunge, which is a muddy area, it's a river that passes through there. We had a submarine cable that made the connection, which has since had problems and it will take a long time to replace it," he said in an interview with Rádio Moçambique.
"There is specific work that will consist of setting up a small airline of about a kilometer and a half," he added.
Tropical Storm Freddy hit Mozambique a few days ago, leaving a trail of destruction in several districts and causing seven deaths, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
