The provincial delegate of the National Institute for Disaster Management (INGD) in Sofala, Aristides Armando, said that the displaced people were in accommodation centers.
According to the source, the district of Marromeu was the worst hit, with more than 600 homes destroyed, followed by Muanza, where the natural phenomenon left a lot of damage.
"The recommendation is to remain in shelters, to avoid moving around as much as possible because we have the situation of thunderstorms, the biggest concern in the province, because it is killing several people, so we ask the population to stay in shelters," said the provincial delegate quoted by Rádio Moçambique.
For four consecutive days, almost the entire province of Sofala has been rained on copiously by tropical cyclone Freddy. (RM)
