Rains again cause urban flooding in the cities of Maputo and Matola

Chuvas voltam a provocar inundações urbanas nas cidades de Maputo e Matola

The torrential rains that have been falling since dawn on Saturday (06) in the Mozambican capital, Maputo, and in the city of Matola, above 100 milliliters, are creating urban flooding, forcing families to abandon their homes in search of safe places.

The situation comes two weeks after the same phenomenon also occurred in the cities of Maputo and Matola, creating a backlash in critical neighborhoods that had overcome the drama.

A publication by AIM says that the most critical neighborhoods in Maputo city are Magoanine, Hulene, Zimpeto, Chamanculo, Inhagoia, Maxaquene, Romão and Polana Caniço, where several families have abandoned their homes because they are flooded, in addition to the roads that give access to urban centers being conditioned due to the interruption of some points.

In greater Maputo, along the ring road, specifically in Chiango, the situation is dramatic, extending to the neighborhoods of Agostinho Neto, Mumemo, in the district of Marracuene, where several houses have been submerged, forcing families to seek shelter in schools and other safe spots, as well as interrupting the circulation of semi-collective transport.

In the municipality of Matola, the Tsalala, Liberdade, Infulene, Malhampsene, Patrice Lumumba, Machava, Nkobe, T3 and Zona Verde neighborhoods were severely hit, forcing public transport to stop for a while due to the precariousness of the roads.
