Rains: Government decrees Orange Alert throughout the country

On Tuesday (27), the Executive activated the nationwide Orange Alert for the current rainy season, announced spokesman Filmão Suaze.

Speaking after the 5th Session of the Council of Ministers, he explained that the Orange Alert corresponds to what would be Level 1. And if there is no improvement, "it could lead to a more difficult situation".

"It is only by issuing this Orange Alert that the legal conditions are met for triggering procedural mechanisms such as the activation of emergency operating centers at national and district level, the mobilization and movement of the necessary material, human or financial resources to strategic locations," he said.

The alert level also serves to intensify efforts to raise awareness among communities so that they can leave areas at risk.

On the other hand, the spokesperson clarified, the alert now serves as a mechanism for anticipating the "short and medium-term" consequences of excess rainfall in the center and north and its scarcity in the south of the country.

"We want to anticipate in order to create the conditions for either an upsurge in rainfall in the center and north, or a lack of rain in the south. Naturally, both situations have their consequences," he said.
