Chiquinho Conde continues to dream of the World Cup, but assumes it won't be easy

Chiquinho Conde continua a sonhar com o Mundial, mas assume não ser fácil

Mambas coach Chiquinho Conde previewed Mozambique's match against Guinea-Conakry in the ninth round of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. For today's match, Thursday (5pm), the Mambas coach will be without full-back Diogo Calila.

Mozambique is third in Group G with 15 points, equal with Uganda and four points behind leaders Algeria. Guinea-Conakry are fourth with 11 points.

"I hope the players aren't too big to do the little things, what we do every day: train, have fun, win and fight. We're living through a historic moment. There's always a great expectation, a great belief that we can get to the World Cup," said Conde.

The coach assumes it's not an easy task, but he stresses that the ambition remains the same: "to get to the World Cup". "We know it's very difficult, but we want to go one step further," he said.

The top nine teams qualify for the 2026 World Cup, while the four runners-up will play off in a play-off, with the winner going on to a six-team play-off tournament with two qualifying places.
