Chapo promises to revise electoral law and recover the national economy

Chapo promete revisão da lei eleitoral e recuperar a economia nacional

The presidential candidate of the Frelimo party, Daniel Chapo, promised yesterday to devote special attention to the revision of the electoral law and the recovery of the Mozambican economy in the first cycle of governance.

Speaking to the press as part of the celebration of his 48th birthday, Chapo, who has been declared the winner of the October 9, 2024 elections, believes that the improvements he intends to implement will have to rely on the collaboration of various political forces.

Daniel Chapo recalled that this year the country will celebrate 50 years of independence, including 30 years of multi-party democracy. He noted that "times and wills change".

"There is a need to update many aspects of the reforms to bring the laws up to date, so that we can develop the country. This is the basis for discussing reforms such as the electoral law and improving decentralization, among others," he said.

Daniel Chapo also advocates reconciliation among Mozambicans in order to stabilize the state, since the demonstrations "caused incalculable damage".

"Thousands of our brothers have lost their jobs because of these demonstrations. The private sector too. There are people who have spent their lives building a certain asset that has been destroyed in a single day," he said.

Daniel Chapo could take office on January 15 as the fourth President of the Republic of Mozambique.
