Frelimo President Daniel Chapo said today that the October 9 elections were contested at a time when there were internal and external interests in removing Frelimo from power at all costs.
He also said that the violent demonstrations are directed by groups who want to remove the liberating parties in power in order to introduce their agendas in various African countries.
But, Chapo stressed, "Frelimo prepared and organized itself", which allowed its candidate to beat his opponents, in a genuine expression of respect for the will of the people.
He recommended that the party reflect "deeply" on the current challenges, with a view to charting better paths at the forefront of the destinies of Mozambicans in relation to the violent post-election demonstrations.
He also challenged the social organizations to return to the grassroots to work with the population to deconstruct the messages of hate (the gospel of hate), in order to re-establish love among the Mozambican people.
"Violent and criminal manifestations should be the subject of analysis for restoration and introspection, in order to identify deviations and failures and the factors that give rise to these phenomena," he said.
Chapo pointed to elements such as arrogance, lack of humility, corruption, among other evils that must be eliminated within the party's members and cadres in order to pull the country out of the national, regional and international crisis.
Chapo was speaking today during the opening of the IV Extraordinary Session of the Frelimo party, which is taking place in Matola.
