Chapo against hate speech

Chapo contra discurso de ódio

The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, wants an end to the discourse that sows hatred among Mozambicans, and reiterated his call for the adoption of a culture of peace.

"Mozambique cannot be the stage for hate speech and violence. We cannot allow violence to be a rule for solving our problems, whether at home, with neighbors, in the neighborhood, at work or wherever we are," declared the Head of State during his speech in Inhambane province.

Chapo was speaking yesterday (15) during the inauguration ceremony of a new government building in the city of Inhambane, in the province of the same name, in the south of the country.

Quoted in an AIM publication, he said that the national commitment to inclusive political dialogue provides for rectifications of legal instruments to ensure that electoral processes are peaceful.

"We need to sit down, as brothers, as Mozambicans, to discuss what is wrong; what the problem is. We should all talk, see how we can rectify it, so that one day we have elections that end, one won, another lost," he said.

He considered it imperative to reach a stage where the losing candidate picks up the phone, calls the winner to congratulate him and then waits for the next elections."

"Dialogue must be the basis for resolving our disagreements. Whether at work, in the fields or in the community, dialog is the only way to guarantee a better future."

The President stressed that peace is not an abstract concept, but a reality that requires constant effort and the collaboration of all Mozambicans. He stressed that social harmony is the foundation of sustainable and inclusive development.

In a country where the consolidation of peace is a goal that requires joint effort, Chapo's appeal resounded like a national call.

"Peace is not just a word. It is a daily construction that requires commitment, patience and the will of each one of us. Together, we can transform Mozambique into a country where differences do not divide, but strengthen," he said during his speech

The Head of State made a comparison with a soccer match, where when the game is over the loser and the winner greet each other and leave the field, to wait for the next round. According to the Mozambican statesman, "those who sow hatred will reap hatred; those who sow violence will reap violence; so we need to sow love for others, harmony, peace, political, economic and social stability, security, and develop our country".

On this visit, the President of the Republic will be accompanied by the Ministers of the Interior, Paulo Chachine; of State Administration and the Civil Service, Inocêncio Impissa; of the Economy, Basílio Muhate; of the Presidency for Civil Affairs, Ricardo Sengo; and of Youth and Sport, Caifadine Manasse.
