Chapo announces Economic Recovery Fund for entrepreneurs affected by post-election demonstrations

Businesspeople affected by the post-election demonstrations will be able to benefit from an Economic Recovery Fund that will be set up by the government, the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, announced yesterday.

"As you know, the violent demonstrations have torn apart the economic and social fabric of the country to some extent. We are currently working with our brothers in the private sector, ANJE - the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs; APEM - the Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises; and the Confederation of Economic Associations," he said.

According to the Head of State, work between the parties resulted in a survey of the private sector companies that suffered during the demonstrations.

"We think it's our responsibility as a government to find these solutions, the local Social Economic Development Fund which we will soon approve a decree to implement, the Economic Recovery Fund to support our private sector entrepreneurs," he said.

Daniel Chapo was speaking yesterday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, after attending the 38th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union. There, Chapo held meetings with the president of the African Development Bank and the richest man in Africa, Nigerian Aliko Dangote.
