The Mozambican national soccer team has achieved yet another historic feat in the CHAN - African Domestic Football Championship - by qualifying for the quarter-finals of the competition.
It was all or nothing to stay in the competition. The Mambas had to at least draw against the host team, Algeria, if they were to rely on themselves.
At the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers, the Algerian capital, the Mozambicans didn't get off to the best start.
In the seventh minute, after a corner, Hocine Dehiri, a defender who plays for Paradou FC, headed the ball past Ivan, the Black Bulls' Mozambican goalkeeper, who had to replace the injured starting goalkeeper Victor Guambe at short notice.
This game was also a goalkeeping story. In addition to losing 0-1, Mozambique ended up seeing Ivan go off injured. After a collision with an Algerian player, Ivan was unwell and the medical staff decided to take the player off the pitch.
Chiquinho Conde, Mozambique's coach, had to start the third goalkeeper, Fazito, a 19-year-old who plays for Ferroviário de Nampula. Fazito's first game in this competition.
At half-time, the Mambas were losing 0-1 against Algeria and in the other match, the Ethiopians, who scored first, were tied at one against the Libyans.
