Updated figures indicate that last year alone, thirty-nine thousand adolescents were infected with HIV and just over three thousand lost their lives to the disease.

The president of the African Network of Adolescents and Youth on Population and Development, Pedro Mahumane, was quoted by RM as saying that the situation is worrying, especially at a time when the country is ranked second among countries with the highest rates of HIV-AIDS infections.

Pedro Mahumane was speaking this Thursday in Maputo at a seminar to train members of the organization in advocacy and lobbying on sexual and reproductive health.
