At least seven districts in the province of Manica, in central Mozambique, are at risk of flooding due to the rain falling in those regions. These are the districts of Mossurize, Sussundenga, Macate, Gondola, Chimoio, Vanduzi and Machaze.
According to the delegate of the National Meteorological Institute (INAM) in Manica, Alexandre Dique, the rains could increase the flow of watercourses and consequently cause flooding.
"Rainy weather will continue for the next few days. The greatest tendency is in the central and southern parts, which will continue to receive a greater amount of rainfall," he said in a publication by Radio Mozambique.
Meanwhile, the delegate of the National Meteorological Institute in Manica is calling for families to be evacuated from flood-prone areas and for farming to be carried out on higher ground.
