CC publishes the position of the candidates for President of the Republic in the electoral bulletin

CC divulga posição dos candidatos a Presidente da República no boletim eleitoral

The Constitutional Council (CC) drew lots today in Maputo for the positions on the ballot paper of the four candidates accepted to run for President of the Republic in the upcoming elections on October 9.

The draw led by the Chair of the CC, Lúcia Ribeiro, determined that Lutero Simango, of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), will take first place; Daniel Chapo, of Frelimo, second; Venâncio Mondlane, of the Democratic Alliance Coalition (CAD), third; and Ossufo Momade, of Renamo, fourth, on the ballot paper.

The candidates' representatives expressed their satisfaction with the draw.

MDM spokesperson Silvia Cheia said they were happy that the application had been approved. "Now all we have to do, as we are already doing on the ground, is work to achieve the MDM's objectives."

"We are satisfied, as Frelimo, with the draw that took place this morning. We accept it because it's a legal procedure," said Frelimo representative João Muchine.

Elvino Dias, for his part, has faith in the position's favorability in order to attract votes.

"For us it's a victory position. In the 2019 elections, the winning candidate was also in third position. It's no coincidence that things are also happening in the same way," he believes.

"The number four, being one of balance and stability, identifies with candidate Ossufo Momade, because he is calm and stable. He doesn't get in the way of anyone attacking him," said Renamo leader Geraldo Carvalho, noting that the position will help explain to voters where they should place their votes.
