The admission to Maputo Central Hospital (HCM) of the two children who were victims of a road accident was confirmed earlier this afternoon by the chief medical officer, Maria Augusto.

She gave an update on the ongoing medical procedures, but did not say whether the children were at risk of death.
"We received the children at around 10 a.m. and one of them, the eight-year-old, has now been confirmed with a diagnosis of brain contusion and plans to be admitted to neurosurgery. The other, the seven-year-old, suffered a bruise to her right knee and is currently under observation in traumatology," he said.
She explained that, because of the blow to the head, the eight-year-old needs more thorough care, while complementary tests are being carried out on the other child.

"The child who is going to be hospitalized had a head injury, but is being stabilized and therefore needs more attention. That's why he'll still be with us, under observation. For the other, complementary tests are still being carried out to confirm the diagnosis," he said.
According to the chief medical officer, the children arrived at the health unit accompanied by a vehicle whose owner could not be identified.
"The children came in a private car, we don't know exactly whose. I think it was someone who helped the children get to the hospital," he said.
The doctor called on drivers to pay more attention when driving on the roads, especially today, when "we are entering the weekend".
"These are the days when we receive the most victims of accidents. Maria Augusto appealed to drivers not only to pay attention on public roads, but also to make sure that when they get behind the wheel, they don't do so after drinking alcohol or taking other substances." (Source: Success TV)
