The President of the Republic said this morning that the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) had captured a terrorist during the early morning fighting in Macomia district, Cabo Delgado province.

"I hope that those who have already been captured by our brave young men don't come tomorrow and say that there is no matter because they were captured in combat, armed and shooting," said Filipe Nyusi.

The insurgents tried to occupy the town of Macomia in two incursions at around 4am, but were promptly counterattacked by the FDS.

The PR assured that work is continuing to guarantee the security of the region, in the region, through the FDS and other friendly troops that were in the region.

"The [government] forces are responding positively, we had already foreseen [the attack]. It's true that it's an area occupied by our brothers who support us, who are already in retreat, but those on the ground are Mozambicans. Perhaps there could be a reinforcement because they are still leaving. I hope we can organize ourselves better, because in times of transition this is what happens," he said.
