The canteen of Namaacha Secondary School gave way to the school board due to the imminent risk of the entire school infrastructure collapsing.
The school is in an advanced state of disrepair, the Radio MozambiqueHe added that ten classrooms and the home are abandoned. The remaining 13 classrooms, which house around 3,000 pupils, are also at risk of collapse.
"There were ten classrooms inside. We also had the teachers' residences. The offices were on the other side. We had to improvise the principal's office here where a school canteen used to be. The Secretariat moved into a classroom. We're also talking about the Pedagogical Directorate Office, which was only for the evening course, in this building outside, which now accommodates all the members of the Pedagogical Directorate," said the school's director, Arone Cubane.
The situation has already led to some students being transferred to other schools in the same district.
The Ministry of Education is aware of the scenario, according to the school's management, which says that around 18 million dollars will be needed to renovate the entire school.
"We have been promised that we will soon benefit from this rehabilitation. The calculations have been made and we need 18 million dollars. Rehabilitation means completely demolishing the building and constructing a building from scratch. There is talk of building a residential park for the teachers because almost all of them come from Maputo city," he explained.
He was talking about receiving computers donated by the school's partners.
