The spokesman for the National Electoral Commission (CNE) announced today in Maputo that the candidacy of the Democratic Alliance Coalition (CAD) has been rejected, with a view to the general elections on October 9.
"This, like all the other decisions of the national elections commission, can be appealed to the Constitutional Council. Therefore, if one of the contestants is not satisfied with the decisions that have been made here, partially rejected, it can be appealed, in the second and final instance, and that will make the decision final," explained Paulo Cuinica.
The "sins" of the CAD listed by the CNE to reject candidacy for the next general elections
According to the spokesperson, the decision to reject CAD's candidacy was unanimous among the CNE members, and no vote was required.
"Not everyone agreed, of course. We started out with disagreements, but after a thorough discussion, we ended up reaching the consensus needed to approve the resolution, without having to vote," he clarified.
He said, on the other hand, that the rejection of CAD's candidacy has nothing to do with Venâncio Mondlane, the head of the list for the elections.
