Presidential candidates to debate in public from tomorrow

Candidatos às presidenciais vão ao debate público a partir de amanhã

The four candidates for the October 9th presidential elections are invited to present their main ideas about the country they will govern if elected.

The first of these debates will take place tomorrow, at 5pm, in the amphitheatre of the Polytechnic University in Maputo, with the candidate for President of the Republic, Lutero Simango, as the guest.

The initiative is run by the Polytechnic University and the Forum for Reflection and Public Policies (FOREPP), which aims to give the candidates the opportunity to interact with the public and directly answer the questions that will be put to them in order to contribute to building a united, peaceful, prosperous and democratic Mozambique.

According to the rector of the Polytechnic, Narciso Matos, the debate will help to better inform the public about his thoughts, his plans and how they will be implemented. "We believe that this will also help the public to get to know the candidate better," said Matos, noting that the candidate will also have space to answer questions from the panel made up of seven citizens from different areas and previously prepared by experts from different fields, including the economy, citizens' rights, defense and security, art and culture, among others.

In this space, there will be a question and the candidate will answer in the way he or she wants, in front of 300 citizens, who will also be given the opportunity to ask questions, and at the end the candidate will have 15 minutes to close.

"We expect the room to be full, with at least three hundred citizens. It all starts with the candidate who will speak for 20 minutes," added the source quoted by the news portal "Zebrando", pointing out that the debate will take place at the Polytechnic University, but will be hosted by STV for four days, which means one day for each candidate.

There are four candidates running for the Presidency of the Republic, namely Ossufo Momade, Daniel Chapo, Lutero Simango and Venâncio Mondlane.
