TotalEnergies is committed to restarting the Liquefied Natural Gas project in the Rovuma basin in Cabo Delgado. The French oil company's president, Patrick Pouyanné, gave his assurance to the Mozambican head of state, Daniel Chapo.
The meeting between the President of Mozambique and the chairman of TotalEnergies took place in the United Republic of Tanzania, on the sidelines of an African energy summit. According to a RFIDaniel Chapo left the meeting with Patrick Pouyanné feeling confident, believing that the project, which was suspended in 2021 due to the terrorist attacks, will resume soon. On the Mozambican side, the importance and grandeur of the liquefied natural gas exploration project in the Rovuma basin for the country's economic growth was highlighted.
The new President of the Republic, elected in the October 9 general elections, the results of which are disputed, also assured that efforts are being made to guarantee the stability needed to implement the Total project.
The content of the conversation with the president of the French oil company was communicated by Daniel Chapo in a message on the X social network. TotalEnergies, which suspended its activities in April 2021 after the attack on the town of Palma, intended to resume the project at the end of last year, to start exploiting natural gas in 2029.
For now, the President of Mozambique has made it clear, and according to assurances received from the French oil company Total, that interest in the project, valued at 20 billion euros, the largest private investment underway in Africa, remains unchanged.
