Cabo Delgado: Terrorists set up "Extortion Posts" between Macomia and Mocímboa da Praia

Cabo Delgado: Terroristas instalam “Postos de Extorsão” entre Macomia e Mocímboa da Praia

Terrorists operating in northern Mozambique, with an epicenter in Cabo Delgado, have found a more daring way of "self-financing" their operations and logistical maintenance.

Because, as it turns out The CountryIn a statement, the governor of the province said that terrorists had set up "extortion posts" on the N380 road between Macomia and Mocímboa da Praia, where they attacked motorists and looted their goods.

According to Valige Tauabo, who calls the recent terrorist incursions "little pockets", the Defense and Security Forces have not yet been called in to escort them, "... because it's not a stable movement".

The Governor said that it is still possible to travel along the stretch, not least because if the escort was suspended in that area, it was because there were signs of improvement and stability.

"This is a terror action. It's an action that they forcefully use to collect. It's not a toll. On the other hand, on this Macomia route, there is transit, but when they have gaps due to hunger, they stop the vehicles, charge them and take all the products they find," he said, quoted by the portal.

As he pointed out, the fact that the terrorist movement is taking place in some districts shows the presence and continuity of "those who do harm to the population".

"The work of those who persecute those who harm the population continues," he said.

Tauabo declined to say whether the attacks in Cabo Delgado are continuing or not, stressing, however, that work is continuing to ascertain the presence of terrorists in the province.

"This means that terrorists still exist in some areas until it's sorted out in the best way, in the sense that nowhere should there be such movement. Then we will say that the province is stable," he said.
