The bishop of the Catholic Church in Pemba, Dom António Juliasse, said on Wednesday that terrorism in Cabo Delgado is becoming a chronic situation with peaks of violence, highlighting the recent attacks in some administrative posts in the Chiúre and Macomia districts.
"Terrorism in Cabo Delgado is becoming a chronic situation with peaks of violence. Since December, there have been many attacks in the villages and at certain administrative posts," said the bishop of Pemba, in an article published on the Cabo Delgado website. Zumbo FM News.
Without specifying numbers, Archbishop Antonio Juliasse also said that since the outbreak of terrorism, many Catholic churches, as well as those of other Christian religions and Muslims, have been destroyed.
"Many churches have been targeted, our own Catholic Christian churches and those of other denominations. Since this violence began here in Cabo Delgado, certain mosques have also been destroyed, so what we have seen since the beginning of this violence affects everyone," he added.
In view of the situation, the source explained that the Catholic Church, through the Pemba Diocesan Caritas, has provided small amounts of support to the displaced in order to minimize the harmful impacts caused by the insurgents.
