The Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) in Cabo Delgado say that some of the demonstrators are not from that province, but are infiltrators from Nampula.
The PRM said it is concerned about the entry of outsiders into Cabo Delgado, whose aim is to protest the results of the October 9 general elections.
"In Cabo Delgado province, we saw a situation where order was changed on the 4th, when members and sympathizers of the PODEMOS party took to the streets and we ended up with a situation where order was changed. Barricades were set up, tires were burned, in the districts of Pemba, Metuge and Montepuez," said Aniceto Magome, quoted in the newspaper "O País."
Magome said that the situation in Cabo Delgado shows that "we are dealing with infiltrators, coming from other parts of the country. We have had reliable information, from the intelligence services, that individuals have come from Nampula, who are the ones leading these movements".
PRM and PODEMOS were speaking at a joint press conference in Pemba.
