Pope Francis said on Sunday that wherever there is fighting, people are exhausted, tired of war, which is always pointless, mentioning, among others, the situations in Sudan and Cabo Delgado in Mozambique.
After praying the Angelus at the Vatican, Pope Francis said that "wherever there is fighting, the people are exhausted, tired of war, which is always useless, inconclusive and only brings death and destruction, and never the solution to the problem".
Quoted by the newspaper Expresso, the Pope referred to the Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, where "violence against unarmed people, the destruction of infrastructure, insecurity" reigns once again, recalling that "a few days ago the Catholic mission of Our Lady of Africa was set on fire".
"Let's pray for peace to return to this tormented region and let's not forget the many conflicts that are bleeding Africa and many parts of the world, Europe, Palestine, Ukraine," he said, also recalling that "ten months have passed since the beginning of the armed conflict in Sudan," which has caused a very serious human situation.
"I once again ask the parties to the conflict to stop this war, which is doing so much harm to the people and the future of the country. Let us pray that paths of peace are quickly found to build the future of beloved Sudan," he said.
