Cabo Delgado: Nova vaga de ataques terroristas em Chiúre já provocou 47 mil deslocados

In Nampula, the number of internally displaced people from the Chiúre district in Cabo Delgado, in the north of the country, has risen from 33,000 to 47,000 in a week, the authorities announced on Sunday (3).

Faced with this situation, the governor of Nampula, Manuel Rodrigues, quoted by Radio MozambiqueHe urged the Emergency Operational Committee (COE) in the district of Eráti to speed up humanitarian assistance.

Addressing the meeting of the district COE, which was attended by the governor of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, Manuel Rodrigues instructed the various players to redouble their efforts to provide humanitarian assistance, especially food, health and education support to the displaced.

Defense Minister Cristóvão Chume admitted that the fight against terrorism is a complex and time-consuming path, guaranteeing that the troops on the ground will not allow terrorists to occupy entire districts again.

"The fight against terrorism, not only in Mozambique, but in all parts of the world, is a difficult fight that needs courage, unity of effort and, above all, not too much anxiety on the part of the national community to hear immediate results in its fight," explained Cristóvão Chume.

The province of Cabo Delgado has been facing an armed insurgency for six years, with some attacks claimed by the extremist group Islamic State.
