The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, recently inaugurated a total of fifty type zero (T-0) houses in the city of Pemba, the provincial capital of Cabo Delgado, whose construction is part of the Renascer Project, which is part of the Integrated Program for the Mass Construction of Social Housing, known as Habita Moçambique.
The 50-home project was set up in an infrastructure area with 226 plots, to which the public water supply and electricity supply networks were extended.
On the site, space has also been set aside for the construction of a type two health center (T-2), work on which is scheduled to begin in 2024. Part of the remaining plots has been allocated to citizens to build their homes using a self-build model.
The project cost the state around 66 million meticais and will directly benefit around 220 people.
"The government is strongly committed to expanding the number of beneficiaries under the Habita Moçambique Program. That's why, as well as the houses we've just handed over, construction work is underway on around 244 houses, 89 of them under the Renascer project and 155 under the housing complex project," said Filipe Nyusi.
For the statesman, the Habita Moçambique project has contributed to reducing informal settlements, as well as mitigating the impact of adverse natural phenomena, because the houses are built with conventional materials and have basic infrastructure installed, namely access, water and electricity.
"We are aware that not all citizens are in a position to access a Type-3 house, which is why we built and delivered the Type-0 house, with the beneficiary evolving according to their financial conditions.
As well as being spacious, the house is set in a 20X30 plot, an area that, as well as accommodating the main house, can be used to build a dependency, etc." he said.
It should be noted that the fifty-house project is the result of revenue from the Housing Development Fund (FFH), which has reinvested it in new programs, such as Habita Moçambique.
Parallel to this program, the government is developing the Northern Mozambique Urban Development Project (PDUNM), which includes the province of Cabo Delgado, where it has already started building 12 water supply systems, seven of which in this province, specifically in the municipalities of Pemba and Montepuez, and another five in Nampula, in the municipalities of Nampula and Nacala-Porto."
It should be noted that each beneficiary will have to repay the value of the house in a maximum of 20 years, through monthly installments of 2,782.36 meticais, with no interest rate. Since its launch, the Renascer project has benefited around 228 families, corresponding to more than a thousand young people.
