On Tuesday night (07), a group of Islamic insurgents managed to enter and infiltrate the town of Mocímboa da Praia, in Cabo Delgado, dressed in the uniform of the Armed Defense Forces of Mozambique (FADM), and held a lecture in a mosque located in the Nabubussi neighborhood, on the outskirts of the town.
According to videos posted on social media, the terrorists addressed worshippers at a mosque, explaining the reasons for their fight, allegedly related to the need to implement an Islamic government in Cabo Delgado. "At the moment, there are two governments, one with an Islamic orientation and the other led by unbelievers," said one of the terrorists, referring to the official government.
On the occasion, the terrorists called on those present not to follow the orders of the Mozambican government and state, otherwise they would be attacked in the near future. They also urged the population not to cooperate with the national and Rwandan Defense and Security Forces (FDS). "If we hear that Allah's paradise exists, then know that you can't just enter. This is not an individual will, it is the religion of God," they stressed.
Addressing young people in particular, the group asked them not to be afraid and to accept defending religion absolutely. At times, they mixed threats against anyone they considered a sinner with religious justifications to legitimize extremist actions.
"In our world there is neither the flag of Filipe Nyusi nor that of Daniel Chapo, the flag that dominates here is that of Subuwana Wuatala. The children of this Muslim community have no fear. According to Subuwana Wuatala, quoted in the 'Book of Croani', the sons of the male sex must remain without fear. We ask you to support us in the prayers (Dhwa)."
The insurgents also called for daily religious practice, reading the Koran and prayer (Dhwa) as a way of strengthening loyalty to their message. The discourse sought to combine fear and faith, creating an atmosphere of intimidation and coercive adherence.
"There are no cafirim (sinners) inside the mosque. Where are they? You must leave; we want to teach you. You must open your eyes. If your eyes are tied, open them. We are defending the religion of Subuwana Wuatala. Every sinner, wherever he is, we will kill. You must open your eyes."
"The Prophet Mohammed showed faith to all the people, respect and the way [...]. Respect each other, Muslims. If you're not respecting each other among Muslims, then start now and know that [...], insha Allah."
After this meeting in the mosque, the group left without any confrontation with the Rwandan and Mozambican troops. According to reports, while the insurgents were giving the talk, the Rwandan military operating in the area were in other neighborhoods.
