Cabo Delgado: Headquarters of the Rapid Intervention Police Eng° Filipe Jacinto Nyusi inaugurated

Cabo Delgado: Inaugurado Quartel da Polícia de Intervenção Rápida Eng° Filipe Jacinto Nyusi

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, inaugurated this Saturday (28), in the district of Metuge, Cabo Delgado province, the new headquarters of the Rapid Intervention Police Eng° Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, the first and largest of this force ever built after Mozambique's independence.

The new infrastructure, the result of an investment of around 186 million meticais (2.97 million dollars), covers an area of around 159 hectares.

Its structure includes several compartments, such as eight residences for officers, four for generals, a mixed dining hall complex, an administrative complex, as well as a firing range.

For this reason, Nyusi said, the Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR) force should be a source of pride in the excellence of the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) and Mozambicans in general.

He explained that "their intervention comes only in situations where restoring order would not be possible using normal means".

The UIR is a force that is called upon to intervene in situations of high tension, conflicts that threaten the physical integrity and lives of citizens.

In this context, says the head of state, this unit is required to have high patriotism, integrity, discipline and high standards of professionalism, "values that are perpetuated as a culture, which is why it commands respect and admiration from colleagues and society as a whole".

According to Nyusi, the inauguration of the UIR barracks is the result of the government's commitment to build a barracks that, in addition to its specific objectives, is another important initiative for the protection of Cabo Delgado province.

The barracks are the result of the need to equip the forces of law and order with a decent infrastructure so that their human resources can raise their level of performance and provide a greater service of protection to the people and their property. (Text: AIM)
