Cabo Delgado: Frelimo sings victory, but Renamo doesn't recognize the song

Cabo Delgado: Frelimo canta vitória, mas Renamo não reconhece a música

The Frelimo party is being tipped as the winner of the VI municipal elections in all the municipalities of Cabo Delgado province and is already singing victory. But its main opponent, Renamo, doesn't recognize the sound of the music.

The National Electoral Commission (CNE) reports that the comrades' party won the elections in all seven municipalities in the province.

"We want to emphasize here that these tabulation results at provincial level reflect what is happening at district level," said Albino Pariela, chairman of the commission, at the presentation in Pemba of the tabulation results, approved on Friday.

The CNE data shows that Frelimo won with 68% of the vote in Pemba, where Renamo got 27% and MDM seven percent.

In Mueda, Frelimo won 87% of the vote, with Renamo and MDM taking eight percent. In Montepuez, Frelimo won 71%, Renamo 25% and MDM 3.4% of the vote. In Balama, Frelimo secured 76% of the vote, against 20% for Renamo and two percent for MDM. On the island of Ibo, Frelimo won 81%, against 15% for Renamo and three percent for the MDM. And in Chiúre, Frelimo was victorious with 50% of the votes, against 45% for Renamo and one percent for MDM.

However, Renamo is unaware of these results presented by the CNE, saying that they are fabricated.

"We don't recognize any victory by any municipality in Cabo Delgado province, we don't recognize them because they are fabricated results," said Manuel Alex Muacuane, Renamo's political delegate, at a press conference.

According to Muacuane, these results reflect electoral fraud, namely the stuffing of ballot boxes, something that he said happened in the municipalities of Chiúre - governed by Renamo - and Mocímboa da Praia.
