Cabo Delgado: Eni seeks partner for new offshore drilling in the Rovuma Basin

Cabo Delgado: Eni procura parceiro para novas perfurações offshore na Bacia do Rovuma

Italian oil company Eni is looking for a partner to carry out new offshore drilling in Area 4, in the Rovuma Basin, in Cabo Delgado province, next year.

The oil company, which is already exploring for natural gas with the Coral Sul project, will hire a rig to drill, complement and evaluate four wells.

According to the NewsEni shared the information on Wednesday (13), without, however, stating the objectives of the plan. It is known, however, that the concessionaire for Area 4, in Rovuma, has plans on the agenda to install a second floating natural gas exploration platform off the northern coast of Mozambique. This plan is seen as the most efficient way of maximizing the area's potential.

The installation of a second platform is subject to government approval and is estimated to cost seven billion dollars.

According to Eni, the new structure, which could possibly begin production in the second half of 2027, will have a nominal water depth of 3,000 meters and a minimum drilling depth of 5,500 meters.
