Cabo Delgado: Seven-year-old child killed by rainwater in Montepuez

A seven-year-old child died on Sunday after being swept away by rainwater following bad weather in the Montepuez district of Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique.

According to the Montepuez district administrator on Tuesday, in addition to the death of the child, the rain in the district is also affecting some access routes.

"We recorded the dragging by the rain of a seven-year-old child who was playing in the riverside areas and ended up losing his life," said Isaura Máquina, quoted by Rádio Moçambique.

According to the latest figures from the National Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (INGD), at least 44 people have died in Mozambique in the current rainy season, since October, due to bad weather, 19 of them in Zambézia province, in the center of the country.
