Cabo Delgado: Administrator threatens to cut salaries of employees who fled due to terrorism

Cabo Delgado: Administrador ameaça cortar salários de funcionários que fugiram devido ao terrorismo

The administrator of the Muidumbe district, in Cabo Delgado province, is threatening to cut the salaries of state employees who have not returned to their workplaces after fleeing as a result of Islamic terrorist actions.

In a meeting that João Casimiro held with state employees on Tuesday morning in the capital of the Muidumbe district, Namacunde, he instructed human resources managers to report absences and deduct the salaries of all absentees.

According to the newspaper, the Carta de Moçambique Casimiro considers it unfair to pay salaries to employees who are not present, even though the employees fear the terrorist groups that have been ravaging the region.

Official sources quoted by the newspaper indicate that at least 180 civil servants and state agents have not yet reported back to their posts since 2021, but continue to receive their salaries every month.
