Russia's new ambassador to Mozambique has guaranteed that his country will continue to support Mozambique in the fight against the insurgency in the north of the country.
Russia has a database of the world's leading terrorists, which could be used to combat terrorism in Cabo Delgado, said the new Ambassador, quoted by the newspaper "O País".
"I think we have good experience. We already have a certain computer base that contains the names of terrorists and we can share, we can give access to this information to our partners," said Vladimir Taravov, Russia's Ambassador to Mozambique.
Not only that, Taravov also said that his country knows the techniques of how to take down terrorists. He also says that his country has the capacity to support military training, among other areas. "We can share our experience on how to bring down terrorism within a country," he said.
"First of all, we have to agree on what help Mozambique needs now. What technology, what equipment (...) Because we also have good experience in the fight against terrorism," he added.
It should be noted that Russia was one of the countries that, between 2019 and 2020, joined Mozambique in the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado, including the presence of Russian mercenaries in the country, although this has not been confirmed by the two governments.
For more than eight years, terrorism has caused enormous damage in the province of Cago Delgado, including human victims, the destruction of infrastructure and several people displaced from their areas of origin.
