Brazil wants to resume financing for the Moamba-Major dam

The Brazilian government intends to resume funding for the Moamba-Major dam on the Incomati river in the Moamba district of Maputo province, which has been paralyzed for almost seven years.

The reservoir, budgeted at 700 million dollars, behind the dam will provide 760 million cubic meters of water, supplying the Greater Maputo Metropolitan Region.

"It's just a matter of time. The resumption of financing is already being discussed and everything is at an advanced level," said Brazil's ambassador, Ademar da Cruz, quoted by "Notícias", on the sidelines of a business meeting between Mozambique and Brazil.

Talks are currently underway between the two governments with a view to creating an instrument that can help unblock funding quickly.

"There are significant developments in the discussion between high-level authorities. We are optimistic that funding will be unblocked," he said, adding that there are specific details that must be observed before funding resumes.
