On December 1st, at the Joaquim Chissano Conference Center in Maputo, at 7pm, Standard Bank will hold the fifth edition of the Standard Bank Acácia Jazz festival, which will feature legendary American pianist, composer and music producer Bob James.

Bob James is co-founder of the jazz fusion band Fourplay, made up of instrumentalists Nathan East (bassist), Larry Carlton (guitarist) and Harvey Mason (drummer), which has already performed in the Municipal Garden of the city of Matola, in Maputo.

He is considered one of the most influential artists in jazz, having shared the stage with a number of artists throughout his career, such as George Benson, Eric Clapton and David Sanborn.

Bob James' career spans more than five decades, and was initially marked by his memorable performance at the Notre Dame Jazz Festival in 1962. He is a studio musician par excellence who is in great demand from many other musicians.

As a tribute to the Mozambican capital, he composed the song Maputo, which is still an international hit today, performed by several well-known artists.

Launched in 2017 as a way of paying homage to the country's capital, also known as the "City of Acacias", the festival will feature the participation of renowned Mozambican musician Jimmy Dludlu and singer, composer and arranger Onésia Muholove, who is part of the new school of Mozambican jazz.

With this group of artists, the conditions are created to, as in previous editions, toast the citizens of Maputo and jazz lovers from all over the country with a memorable show.

With this initiative, Standard Bank aims to enhance national culture and promote the city of Maputo, its beauty and all it has to offer, as well as boosting tourism.

The festival also aims to contribute to the internationalization of Mozambican music and to promote the new generation of artists that has been emerging in the country.
