Starting this Saturday, the Angolan capital hosts the Luanda Biennial - Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace.
According to information advanced by UN News agency, the event counts with heads of state, members of governments, representatives of international organizations, diplomats and personalities. The Biennial highlights the cultural heritage of Angola and Africa.
The meeting debates cultural diversity, fashion, cinema, and tourism and is part of the program to be released through the digital platform Bienal TV in Portuguese, English, and French.
According to news sources, the Luanda Biennial sessions will be both face-to-face and virtual, reflecting initiatives that impact peace and sustainable development in Africa. The organization includes the Government of Angola, the African Union, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Unesco.
UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay emphasizes the culture of peace in a space to reflect on the future by promoting the cultural richness of African countries and resilience.
Unesco notes that while opportunities for sustainable development in Africa are growing, the continent still faces many challenges. Among them are the risks of instability and conflict.
As for the United Nations agency, the Luanda Biennial is a contribution to the promotion of peace and non-violence, based on shared African values.
Note that the Luanda Biennial is a joint initiative of UNESCO, the AU and the government of Angola, which aims to promote violence prevention and conflict resolution by encouraging cultural exchange in Africa and intergenerational dialogue.
