Bank of Mozambique to launch integrated financial operations system

Banco de Moçambique vai lançar sistema integrado de operações financeiras

The financial operations of market and reserve management, treasury, foreign exchange, transactions between public and financial entities and the stock exchange will now be carried out through an integrated computer system, the Bank of Mozambique (BM) announced on Thursday (04).

The mechanism could be implemented soon, and will be a method of monitoring financial movements in order to combat money laundering, the financing of illegal activities and other prohibited operations.

As the Governor of the WB, Rogério Zandamela, explained in Bilene, the tool will also modernize, strengthen and give greater security to the central bank's technological infrastructure, as well as aligning its activities with international best practices.

He was speaking as part of the 5th Meeting of the WB's Branch Managers, and on the occasion urged the promotion of the rules for the creation of a Unique Tax Identification Number for clients of commercial banks and electronic money institutions.

"In the field of cash management, it was recommended that a working group be set up, coordinated by the Issuing and Treasury Department, to reflect on the implementation model for private cash processing centers," he said.
