In a study, the Central Bank exposed a network of corruption that has partially killed off fishing in the country.
The Bank recommends profound changes to revitalize the sector, which is considered extremely important for the survival of the economy, according to “O País”.
The accusation was made in the city of Pemba, during the closure of the advisory council of the Bank of Mozambique, which carried out a study considered to have in-depth knowledge of the case.
The central bank mentions in the study that corruption is jeopardizing the country's fishing sector, especially in Cabo Delgado, a province rich in marine resources.
According to the aforementioned study, the lack of public investment has been another problem, made worse by the fact that almost all banks do not agree to finance fishing, says the publication.
To save the sector, the governor of the Bank of Mozambique promised to send the study to the competent authorities.
“Challenges facing the fisheries sector in Mozambique: The case of Cabo Delgado”, was the theme of the Bank of Mozambique's public session, held as part of the body's fiftieth advisory council. O País.
