Absa Bank and ISUTC join forces to empower women in technology

Banco Absa e ISUTC unem forças para empoderar as mulheres na tecnologia

Absa Bank Mozambique signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Instituto Superior de Transportes e Comunicações (ISUTC - TRANSCOM) yesterday (Wednesday 16), aimed at supporting the inclusion of women in technological areas, as well as reinforcing its commitment to gender equality..

An Absa press release states that the initiative is part of the Women's Forum program, which aims to promote female empowerment in response to the under-representation of women in the technology sector, where there is a strong inequality.

According to Absa, for example, in Computer Engineering courses, women represent less than 30% of students. Therefore, "the aim of this partnership is to combat this disparity, promoting access for more women to these areas of study and creating opportunities for future professionals in a rapidly growing sector".

For Absa Bank Mozambique's Human Capital Director, Hanifa Hassangy, this partnership is just the first step in supporting more women to take up careers in technology. "Our aim is to help transform this sector, creating opportunities for those who face significant barriers from education to the job market," said Hanifa Hassangy.

The managing director of TRANSCOM, Luís Almeida, said that the institution "is committed to inclusion and to training highly qualified professionals to face today's challenges. This partnership with Absa Bank Mozambique reinforces our mission to train qualified staff, contributing to the country's development."

This initiative also opens doors for participation in Absa's Graduate Program, creating a crucial bridge to the job market and boosting the launch of talented young women's careers in the technology sector.
