Rolls-Royce has announced that its all-electric airplane has successfully completed its first 15-minute flight. The event marks the beginning of a complex phase of intense testing with the airplane that, according to the company, is a "Spirit of Innovation."
"We are focused on producing the technological breakthroughs society needs to make air, land and sea transport more carbon-free, and capture the economic opportunity of the transition to zero-rating," said Warren East, CEO of Rolls-Royce.
The characteristics that "air cabs" require from batteries are very similar to those being developed for the "Spirit of Innovation" so that it can reach speeds of 300+ MPH (480+ KMH).
On the other hand, Rolls-Royce and Airframer Tecnam are working with Widerøe, Scandinavia's largest regional airline, to supply an all-electric passenger aircraft for the air transport market, which is planned to be ready for revenue service in 2026.
