As of this Monday, traffic on the stretch between Costa do Sol and the Radisson Hotel in Maputo city will be four lanes.
The measure, according to Fernando Uache, the municipal councillor for Mobility and Urban Transport, aims to make road traffic more flexible in the morning.
According to a note from the municipality, the technical test will be accompanied by a team comprising the Mozambique Road Network (REVIMO) and Municipal Police officers, with the aim of assessing the possibility of introducing a fourth lane from 6am to 8am, every working day of the week.
"We are addressing a long-standing concern of motorists and, depending on the success of this activity, traffic may improve significantly over the next few days in this part of the country's capital," he explained.
