South African police said they had arrested five suspects, including three foreigners, after a failed kidnapping attempt for ransom in the city of Johannesburg.
They are two South Africans, two Ugandans and a Malawian, neutralized yesterday, Friday (23), during an operation conducted by South African intelligence.
According to a Radio MozambiqueA South African police spokesman has revealed that a South African woman planned to kidnap her boss in order to force him to pay large sums of money.
"The five detainees will face charges of conspiracy to kidnap and extortion," he added.
Official figures released by the South African police indicate that between October and December 2023, the mining province of Gauteng saw an increase of 20% in the number of kidnappings, registering 2367 cases, which represents more than half of the kidnappings in the country during the period in question (4577 cases).
