Some 275 illegal immigrants of Malawian nationality have been detained by migration authorities in Gaza province.
According to Gaza Migration Services spokesman Abeldo Nhanombe, the group presented passports and emergency certificates, but had no entry visas. The migrants were on four buses, three of them from Mozambican carriers and one from Malawi.
The spokesman, who was speaking to the media said that the immigrants entered Mozambique through two borders in the central province of Tete and were bound for neighboring South Africa.
"I call on all citizens and passenger carriers to conduct themselves in a vigilant manner and watch out for the presence of strange citizens on their buses," he said.
It should be noted that Mozambique has been a transit point for thousands of migrants who annually cross borders, some to try to reach South Africa, one of the largest economies on the African continent.
