Portuguese authorities resume search for Mozambican missing in the River Arade in Portimão

Autoridades portuguesas retomam buscas por moçambicano desaparecido no rio Arade, em Portimão

The Portuguese authorities resumed the search today, Friday (02), for the man who disappeared late on Thursday afternoon while practicing 'stan up paddle' in the River Arade, in Portimão. The search now has the support of divers and a drone.

According to the Portuguese Maritime Authority, the 29-year-old man of Mozambican nationality, named Joaquim Tomás Guambe, allegedly got into difficulties while practicing stand-up paddle in the River Arade, in the dredged area, south of Doca Pesca.

"According to what we were able to ascertain, the man disappeared in the river after getting into difficulties while returning from a stand-up paddle activity. His friend, who was with him and wearing a life jacket, managed to return to land by his own means and raised the alarm," reads the note.

The friend alerted the authorities, who began the search with means of the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos (ISN)This involved two officers from the Maritime Police, with two vehicles and four officers, and a boat from the Portimão Fire Brigade with six officers, two of them divers.
