Authorities detain women 'killers' of their husbands

Autoridades detêm mulheres ‘assassinas’ dos maridos

The Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) in Tete have arrested three Zambian nationals accused of murder at the Kassuenda administrative post in Maravia.

The act allegedly took place after one of the accused, the victim's wife, hired two citizens to murder her husband, a Zambian national.

According to Rádio Moçambique, the accused went to the victim's home and, using blunt instruments, attacked him.

The crime was allegedly motivated by passion, according to the spokesman for the PRM provincial command in Tete, Feliciano da Camara.

"The case in question was motivated by jealousy. This citizen became aware that her spouse was having an extramarital relationship and took the step of hiring individuals to strike blows and take her husband's life," she said.

The PRM in Tete appeals to citizens not to adopt this type of attitude, "resorting to private mechanisms" to resolve issues of passion, and to seek out the authorities.

"Our appeal to the population is necessarily to go to the local structures as well as the police authorities, where there are family assistance offices, and they have specialists who will convey the message of conciliation," he said.

In Niassa, in the Metarica district, a dispute between a couple resulted in the immediate death of the man, the husband, after he was beaten with a stick by his wife. The case took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning at the couple's home, reports RM.

At the root of the death is an alleged unequal division of 24,000 meticais, which resulted from the sale of agricultural products.

Efforts are underway to bring the accused, a 49-year-old Mozambican woman, to justice.
